Indigo Dye Resist Workshop with Millicent Kennedy - February 25th, 11 AM-2 PM
COOP is pleased to present Transforming Antidotes, a collaborative exhibition by artists Lisa Alberts and Millicent Kennedy. The artists explore alchemy in labor that leads to transformation — juxtaposing soft and harder-edged sculptures — finding synchronicity in hand-printed textiles and mending. Dyed fabrics stuffed and tangled disguise complex feelings of motherhood and anxiety in the body. Obsolete items archived in a transitory world evoke both stagnancy and newness. The meaning of labor relates more bodily for Alberts as a caregiver where objects of comfort are used as antidotes to our anxieties. Kennedy investigates new life by protecting lifeless items under embellished cover. For both artists, making by hand is a private performance dispelling past and future fears with stitched remedies of courage, craftsmanship, attention, and rebirth.
