More about the Curator
Born in Accra, Ghana, and raised in Athens, Ohio, Delanyo Mensah (b. 2002) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work embodies the intersectionality of her identities and experiences. Growing up in a multicultural academic environment in Southeast Ohio has provided Mensah with a unique perspective on the intricacies of various cultures and identities. Drawing from her upbringing, Mensah’s art serves as a vibrant tapestry that weaves together the complexities of her cultural heritage and personal journey.

Centering Black women and queer people of color, Mensah’s work explores themes of identity, belonging, and resilience. Through visual representations and poetry, she uplifts marginalized voices, shedding light on their beauty and strength. Mensah’s art acts as a bridge between different worlds, blending traditional Ghanaian elements with contemporary expressions to create a visual language that reflects her intersectional identity.

This upbringing informs her art, allowing her to traverse the connections and dissonances between different environments. Mensah’s work stands as a testament to the power of storytelling to heal, educate, and empower, offering a space for reflection, connection, and celebration of collective existence.
